New Delhi: Michel Platini's competitive juices are at work once again but not for the French football team.

The great midfield general of yesteryears is getting ready to fight for the post of UEFA President.

He will take on the Goliath of European football and current incumbent 77-year-old Lennart Johansson.

"Lennart (Johansson) said I wasn't experienced enough. Of course I do not have a lot of experience but I will work with people who have experience, an administration of 200 people who have experience and knowledge. I have a philosophy and I will bring this philosophy into it. I know where I am going. I know where football needs to go," Platini, who is a Executive Committee Member of FIFA and UEFA, said.

One of the sharpest footballing brains in his time, Platini has already chalked out his priorities for European football.

With smaller nations literally having no representation in the Champions League, he wants to modify the League format, and also try and make peace between national teams and the top clubs.

The need to stop the escalating racism in the sport remains in sight, so does the need to regulate the flow of big bucks to buy-out clubs by foreigners.

"I have a philosophy and I will bring this philosophy into it. I know where I am going. I know where football needs to go," Platini said.

If Platini does win the elections on January 26, then one can surely expect some better times for European football.

What's your reaction?
