Shamita Shetty Undergoes Endometriosis Surgery: Symptoms, Causes And Treatment
Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue comparable to the lining of the uterus begins to grow outside the uterus.

Actress and former Bigg Boss 15 contestant Shamita Shetty recently underwent endometriosis surgery. She shared a video with her social media fans on Instagram from her hospital bed. Shamita Shetty recommends women google the disease and become aware of ‘the excruciating ailment’ because about 40% of women suffer from it, yet the majority of them know little about it.

“Did you know that almost 40% of women suffer from Endometriosis and most of us are unaware of this disease!!! I want to thank both my doctors, my gynaecologist Dr Neeta Warty, and my GP Dr Sunita Banerjee for not stopping till they found out the root cause of my pain. Now that I’ve had this disease surgically removed, I’m looking forward to good health and more physically pain-free days,” Shamita Shetty captioned her post.

What Is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue comparable to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. It can cause severe pelvic pain, making it difficult to conceive. Endometriosis can begin during a person’s first menstrual period and persist until menopause, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Endometriosis causes tissue to form outside the uterus that is comparable to the uterine lining. This causes inflammation and scar tissue to grow in the pelvis and (in rare cases) elsewhere in the body. Endometriosis’s cause is unknown. There is no recognised method for preventing endometriosis. There is no cure, but the symptoms can be managed with medications or, in some cases, surgery.

Symptoms of Endometriosis

  • Endometriosis often causes severe pelvic pain, especially during menstrual periods.
  • Some people experience pain when having sex or using the bathroom.
  • Some people have difficulty becoming pregnant.

Meanwhile, some people also experience:

  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Heavy bleeding during periods or between periods
  • Trouble getting pregnant
  • Nausea or bloating
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety or depression.

Causes of Endometriosis

Endometriosis’ specific cause is unknown, however, various factors may contribute to its development:

  • Retrograde menstruation occurs when menstrual blood including endometrial cells travels back via the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity during periods when blood normally flows out of the body through the cervix and vagina.
  • Retrograde menstruation can cause endometrial-like cells to be deposited outside the uterus, allowing them to implant and develop.
  • Cellular metaplasia occurs when cells transform from one form to another. Cells outside the uterus transform into endometrial-like cells and begin to proliferate.
  • Stem cells can cause the disease, which subsequently spreads throughout the body via blood and lymph channels.

Treatment for Endometriosis

Surgery

This can include laparoscopic excision of endometrial implants as well as more extensive surgery to remove damaged tissue. In certain circumstances, surgery can effectively relieve discomfort and improve fertility.

Pain management

Pain medications, either over-the-counter or prescription, can assist control of pelvic pain caused by endometriosis.

Medications

Hormonal contraception, such as birth control tablets or progestin treatment, can help manage symptoms by shortening or eliminating menstrual cycles.
