- It is not the sole responsibility of support players to use wards.
- Buy wards if you have the inventory space and gold.
- Disperse the fog of war in critical map points to increase your vision and give you more control over the battlefield.
Learn Warding and Vision
Warding disperses the fog of war so your vision increases. Likewise, enemy wards in your area increase the vision of those you're fighting against. Some champions and abilities temporarily reveal what's hidden in the fog of war, but wards are more permanent (at least until they are destroyed). Wards are purchasable from the in-game shop before each game.
Warding Roles
Supports are usually responsible for wards, but anyone can place them. Since warding and vision control are so important to winning a game, everyone on the team should contribute! So if you have the inventory space and the extra gold, buy some wards (like the Control Ward) to help with vision control in your next game.
Types of Wards
Some wards are limited, while other wards are available for every role. The best type of ward for you depends on factors like your role, your level, and how far along you are in the game.
Early-Game Warding
Prevent early ganks and roams. You might want to place your wards in river bushes to prevent ganks, but placing them near enemy camps and deep down river might actually let you spot enemies coming from a mile away. In this case, you'll have plenty of time to escape the area or plan a counterattack.
Mid- & Late-Game Warding
Put your wards in the enemy's jungle. You'll be able to see their movements, rotations, and farming habits, so you can better attack them. However, if you haven't been doing well, your safest warding spot is in your own jungle. That way you can see any incoming enemy troops.
The Best Warding Spots
Reveal critical map points without being obvious. You want to be able to see areas like the river, objectives, and the enemy's camp, but these need to be placed effectively to avoid being destroyed instantly. Obvious places include river brushes and pixel bushes, so avoid placing your wards there. Instead, put your wards in the depths of the river to prevent them from being destroyed early in the game and thus hindering your vision.
Sneaking your ward into the Dragon or Baron pit is efficient. While you're also gaining vision in that area, you'll also be rewarded for discovering those objectives.
Place wards behind you. If you're not in camp, you want to put wards behind you so you aren't flanked from behind. Read this guide to improve your League of Legends gameplay overall.
