How to View Twitter Without an Account
How to View Twitter Without an Account
X, formerly known as Twitter, is an excellent source to stay up-to-date on what's going on in the world and with the people and causes you care about. But can you read X without having to make an account? Currently, X is implementing a restriction on tweets viewed by non-users, but there are plenty of workarounds you can try. This wikiHow article teaches you how to view tweets and X profiles without signing into an account.
Things You Should Know
  • You must be signed into an account to view tweets. This restriction may change in the future.
  • Use Google to search for a specific X user along with a word, phrase, or hashtag. Tweets should still appear in the top search results.
  • Use third-party websites to search for X trends and keep track of what's happening on X.

Can I view X/Twitter without an account?

No—you must have an account to view tweets on X. As of July 2, 2023, tweet previews will be hidden when sent to other platforms such as Discord or Messenger. If you click on a link sent to you by a friend, you'll be redirected to X's log in and sign-up page. In some cases, you'll receive the "Something went wrong. Try reloading." error. Unfortunately, refreshing the page won't bypass it. This restriction may be removed in the future. Until then, you can always create an account or try the methods below.

Using Nitter

Find an X URL. Nitter allows you to quickly look at a tweet, thread, or profile.

Enter the URL in the address bar. You'll need to edit the URL slightly before sending it.

Change twitter.com to nitter.net. Replace the entire domain with Nitter's domain. For example: https://twitter.com/wikihow becomes https://nitter.net/wikihow

Press ↵ Enter to load the page. You should be able to view the tweet, thread, or profile. If you're having trouble seeing tweets in the Tweets tab, click Tweets & Replies instead.

Using Google to Search X/Twitter

Go to https://www.google.com/ in a web browser. Sometimes it's a little easier to use Google to search for Tweets on X. Go to Google's home page to begin a search on X using Google. While this method may not work at the moment, it might work again in the future when the restriction lifts.

Type site:twitter.com in the search field. This limits your search results to X and does not include search results from other websites or social media platforms.

Add the name of a X user you want to search for. If you know the username of the X user you want to search for, type "@" followed by the name of the user you want to search for (i.e., "@wikihow").

Add any words or phrases you want to search for. To search for Tweets containing specific words, add the words you want to search for in the search bar. If you want to search for a specific phrase, type your phrase in quotation marks in the search bar (i.e., "Taco Tuesday").

Add any hashtags you want to search for. If you want to search for Tweets with a specific hashtag, type "#" in the search bar, followed by the name of the hashtag you want to search for in the search bar (i.e., #TacoTuesday).

Click or tap Android 7 Search or Google Search. When you are ready to search X, click or tap the magnifying glass icon to the left of the search bar or click Google Search below the search bar. This will display a list of search results on Google.

Click ⋮ next to the URL. You'll need to view the cached version of the search result instead. A pop-up window will open.

Click the down arrow. You can find this underneath to the right of "Remove result." Additional options will appear.

Click Cached. The cached page will load. Alternatively, you can type "cache:" in front of a X post's URL. For example: cache:https://twitter.com/wikihow

Using Third-Party Websites

Search for X trends. A few third-party websites keep track of what's trending on X. You can use these websites to track what's happening on X without signing into an account. Most of these websites allow you to select a country to view trends in your local area and worldwide. The following are a few websites where you can view X trends: https://trends24.in/ https://twitter-trends.iamrohit.in/ https://www.exportdata.io/trends/ https://getdaytrends.com/

Search for X/Twitter lists. X lists allow you to customize the content you see in your timeline and share your lists with other users. If you don't have an account, you cannot make or share X lists or view private lists. However, you can view public lists. Use the following steps to search for public lists without a X account: Go to https://www.scoutzen.com/twitter-lists/search in a web browser. Type the name of a topic in the search bar. Click Search. Click the name of a search to view it on X.

Use aggregator websites to find tweets. Content aggregator websites gather information from other websites and compile it all in one place. You may be able to find and read tweets with a few keywords or hashtags. Some websites may require you to sign up for an account first. Some popular aggregator websites include: https://mswishlist.com/ https://curator.io/ https://feedly.com/ https://taggbox.com/ https://tagembed.com/

Creating a Burner Account

Go to https://twitter.com/i/flow/signup or open the X app. If you want to view X, you can make a burner account with fake information.

Click Create account. You can also select Sign up with Google or Sign up with Apple to login with those accounts instead.

Use any name. You can use any name you'd like.

Enter an email address. If you don't have an extra email address handy, you can easily create a disposable one.

Enter your date of birth. This can be any date of birth, as long as the age is over 13 years old.

Click Sign up. This is the blue button.

Verify your account. A code will be sent to the email address you provided. Enter the code into the field, and click Next.

Create a password. Make sure the password is at least 8 characters. Click Next when you're finished. You should be logged into your new X account. You can now view tweets.
