THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM state conference which will conclude on Friday is likely to induct ten new faces in the new state committee. As of now, the 85-member committee has a vacancy of seven following the death of five members and removal of P Sasi and C K P Padmanabhan. In the last four years, state committee members E Balanandan, I V Das, P Govindan, R Parameswaran Pillai and K Saidalikutty had died and P Sasi was expelled from the party while C K P Padmanabhan was demoted from the state committee. The four sure names to figure in the new committee include the four newly-elected district secretaries C B Chandrababu (Alappuzha), A C Moideen (Thrissur), C K Rajendran (Palakkad) and P P Vasudevan (Malappuram). Some of the probables in the reckoning for induction in the state committee are from the young brigade. Among the probables are DYFI state president M Swaraj, state secretary T V Rajesh, all-India joint secretary M B Rajesh MP, P K Biju MP, SFI state secretary P Biju and A M Shamseer. V P Rajeena from Malappuram may get attention if the party decides to increase the number of women in the state committee. As the party is interested in inducting persons with clean image and representing the constituency of intellectuals, Dr B Iqbal from Kottayam may get elected.Earlier, the central leadership had given a guideline to limit the number of state committee members to 80. However, politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had made it clear that it would be the state conference which would decide on the strength of the committee. In case of limiting the strength to 80, there are chances for those unacceptable to the official faction getting dropped. As the prevailing atmosphere is for strengthening the unity and the VS faction has almost been decimated with this conference, no one expects anyone to contest against the will of the leadership.
