KOCHI: Two labourers from Palluruthy were suspended by the Labour Welfare Board on Wednesday for demanding Nokkukooli from a police Sub-Inspector. Meanwhile, a complaint has been registered with the DGP against the SI for giving Nokkukooli. V M Antony and K P Saijan were the two suspended. The two had demanded Nokkukooli for unloading sand from Palluruthy SI Rajesh. Action was taken when reports about the incident came to the notice of Labour Minister Shibu Baby John. Ernakulam was declared as Nokkukooli-free district last month. The labour officer took up the issue and the Rs 800 charged by the labourers was returned to Rajesh. According to the labour rules, the amount for unloading sand is only Rs 700, but the labourers had demanded Rs1500. The public can inform about such incidents to the Labour Department by calling the helpline 155-300. Any information on Nokkukooli can also be directly given to the Labour Minister.
