Jaipur: At least 25 students were injured in a clash with police at University of Rajasthan campus on Wednesday during a protest demanding arrest of those involved in the recent attack on Independent MLA Hanuman Beniwal.
Students under the banner of "Yuva Kisan Chatra Akrosh", led by its Convener Mukesh Bhakar, assembled at the University of Rajasthan campus to gherao Jaipur police commissionerate demanding arrest of those involved in the attack on Beniwal on the night of September 23, the ACP of Gandhinagar said.
The protesters started pelting stones at police personnel forcing them to thrash the students, he said, adding around 10 vehicles including some belonging to the police department were damaged.
Around 20 protesters were rounded up for interrogation, the ACP added.
Meanwhile, MLA Beniwal blamed the state police's high handedness in stopping the students' rally and not allowing them to gherao the Police Commissioner Office here for the clash.
The students were holding the rally peacefully but it was the police that triggered unruly scenes leading to the clash. They resorted to baton-charge and indulged in violence injuring at least 50 students, Beniwal said while visiting the injured at SMS hospital.
"A group of miscreants probably of Karni Sena attacked me at Jhotwara on the night of September 23 for unknown reasons and he escaped unhurt," the MLA said.
