PUDUCHERRY: At the end of the first phase of counselling, 32 MBBS seats and 192 engineering seats have fallen vacant. The vacancies in engineering are all under the reserved categories. In total the vacancy position is SC - 151, BT - 27, EBC-1 , MBC - 12,OBC-1. However, the vacancy is likely to increase with some of the alloted seats going unfilled. All these vacant seats would be offered to students during the second round of counselling that would be held during the fourth week of August. At present 2,616 students have been allotted seats from a total of 2,808.In MBBS, there are 32 seats that have fallen vacant after students moved to engineering courses. In all, 167 candidates moved from biology-based course to engineering including 32 MBBS candidates. Out of 23 seats under the government category, only nine have been allotted and out of that only four persons took admission. Similarly, out of 22 seats under NRI quota , only three have responded. There could be some additional seats in MBBS in Indira Gandhi Medical College with the Central quota and NRI quota drawing lukewarm response.
