CHENNAI: The AVT Duchess Car Rally is back this year with its 10th edition, to provide a platform for women to explore their energy levels in driving. It will be conducted by the Duchess Club and Madras Motor Sports Club along with the AVT Group, and is open for cars of all engine capacities, including diesel and jeeps. The specialty of this year’s rally is that there’s a special category for men.“We hope this time we cross the 100 entries mark. We’re expecting around 10 to 15 entries from men,” said Nina Reddy, President, The Duchess Club.“All four participants in the car have to be men. We will be following a Time, Speed and Distance (TSD) format and the participants will have to cover a distance of 75km,” said G Manohar of the Madras Motor Sports Club. The rally will be held in four categories — Expert, Regular, Novice and Duchess.“There will be a briefing session on July 9 at 5pm at Hotel Savera, where we will inform the participants about the calculation and the tulip chart.” Like every year, the rally will have a theme for the cars and the women, and this year, Nina Reddy said, it is retro. “We have a lot of prizes to be given away and we are in talks with celebrities to flag off the event and participate in the rally.” Selvi, a regular participant in the rally, said, “We always win prizes and it’s so much fun. Four of us coordinate and work as a team. While, one drives the car, the other takes care of navigation and someone looks at the calculation bit.” The Duchess Club has also planned for a grand prize distribution ceremony to encourage more and more entrants. The entry forms can be collected from The Duchess Club, Hotel Savera. The flag off will take place at the Savera Hotel on July 10, 9am.The registration fee is `800 per car (including the lunch for four people).
