PARADIP: “With the consent of the villagers,” the remark of the district administration on resumption of ancillary and construction work for Posco Project had them conduct a meeting with the chiefs of village forest committees at Ersama on Tuesday.Peeved at the alleged police assault and non-fulfillment of their six demands, the villagers in Nuagaon and Gadakujang panchayats had stalled the work. Meanwhile, members of Dadhibaman and Nabeghar forest committees led by their village chiefs-cum-working president of United Action Committee Dhirendra Pallei have decided to extend support to the administration if the six demands are conceded. However, Mathsahi and Balisahi forest committees would continue to oppose the project. The recent face-off between the villagers and the police had turned many pro-Posco villagers into antagonists.Ersama BDO Murlidhar Swain interacted with the members of Dadhibaman, Nabeghar, Ramchandi and Sanghaipai forest committees at Erasma block office. Gadakujang panchayat Sarpanch Nakul Sahu was present. “We are making all efforts to convince the villagers to support the project and hope to start the work in two days,” Swain said. The day witnessed demonstrations at different places with the women of Nuagaon and Gadakujang taking the lead while Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti continued their dharna at Gobindpur.
