CHENNAI: In a fallout of the events on April 15, when supporters of Union Minister M K Alagiri stayed away from an event chaired by party treasurer M K Stalin in Madurai, the DMK on Sunday removed an office bearer from primary membership for violating party decorum. In a statement, party general secretary K Anbazhagan said that after the media reported on certain party members abstaining from interviews for the urban youth wing posts undertaken by Stalin in Madurai, a letter was sent through party organising secretary T K S Elangovan to the members seeking an explanation. While some of them had not given due importance to the letters, K Essakki Muthu, Madurai presidium chairman, had questioned Elangovan’s authority in asking for the explanation, terming it against party laws. As this amounted to disrespecting the party high command, Muthu was being removed from all posts, including party’s primary membership, and is disqualified from applying for membership in the future, the statement said.
