Lucknow: Samajwadi Party came out in defense of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh’s brother Shivpal Yadav, after a sting operation on a TV channel showed that he was in touch with a police official handling the probe into Nithari killings.
"Civil and police officials keep talking to ministers as part of protocol. It’s not a big thing and there is nothing wrong in it," SP general secretary Amar Singh said on Saturday.
Amar Singh also vehemently denied the reports of UP minister Shivpal Yadav having close links with Noida Circle Officer Dinesh Yadav.
A sting operation done by a TV channel alleged that CO Dinesh Yadav was in close link with Nithari killings accused Moninder Singh Pandher. The sting also said that Shivpal, the state PWD minister had called Dinesh Yadav on his mobile phone on several occasions to botch up the investigation.
Dinesh Yadav was suspended on Saturday. In reply to persistent queries, Amar Singh shouted his mouth off at media saying that, "Shivpal was not on the payroll of Pandher."
Mulayam Singh Yadav too expressed anger over Shivpal's reported assertion that "Incidents like Nithari are routine and keep happening".
Amar Singh attacked the Congress, claiming Pandher had close links with the Congress. He said though Pandher was the "son-in-law of a former PPCC chief and a close relative of Congress MP from Ludhiana Gurmit Singh Rana, "it does not mean that they too were involved in the crime".
Singh demanded a CBI inquiry be conducted in the case of recovery of skeletons from a factory in Punjab and into alleged incidents of child pornography in Goa, Puri and Mumbai.
