Amethi: A woman was allegedly gangraped over a land dispute in the Gauriganj area of Amethi on Wednesday. The woman has alleged that some persons assaulted and later gangraped her.

The police have registered a case against three people but no arrests have been made so far. "The victim alleged that some persons assaulted and later gangraped her in a house on Wednesday," IG (Law and Order) Amrendra Sengar told reporters in Lucknow. Sengar said that a case has been lodged against three persons in this regard, but no arrest has been made so far.

"Both the parties were brought to the police station for questioning," Sengar said. Meanwhile, Amethi District Magistrate Jagatraj Tripathi and SP Heeralal said that in initial investigation the incident was not confirmed, but legal action and inquiry would continue.

Condemning the incident, Amethi MP and Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi said, "It is deeply disturbing that every day we hear of gruesome incidents where women are the target of extreme violence. Whether it is the brutal rape and murder of two young girls in Badaun or the recent rape of a minor girl in Jhalawar in Rajasthan, the alleged rape yesterday in Amethi, or other incidents reported from different parts of the country. This is unacceptable."
