New Delhi: The judicial custody of the 6 directors of Kolkata's AMRI hospital will end on Thursday. The directors were arrested after a massive fire in the hospital's basement led to the death of 93 people, mostly patients.
The Kolkata police on Tuesday announced compensation for families of the 29 of those dead. The rest would be given compensation after due verification of documents, it said.
Meanwhile, industry body FICCI on Tuesday claimed that action taken against AMRI directors was not completely non-discriminatory. In a strongly worded statement to the West Bengal government, FICCI demanded the immediate release of those who were not responsible in the day-to-day operations of the business. It said it would prevent the spread of negative sentiments among investors.
FICCI further said it was important to ensure that no overt or covert victimization of people took place in the name of justice.
Meanwhile, families of the victims have formed an association and are moving the High Court to demand justice.
