HYDERABAD: Minister P Shankar Rao pulled off another stunt Friday by conducting an official review meeting squatting on the floor of his new chambers at Secretariat. He was peeved that the government had not outfitted his new digs with new furniture. The minister had called a review meeting with officials of a number of government corporations in his chambers- 302 of H Block- into which he had moved only recently. Finding no furniture of his choice, he decided to register his displeasure by squatting on the floor for the proceedings. Having no choice but to follow the boss, the officials- from the AP Housing Corporation, LIDCAP, APSIDC, APSRTC, AP Road Development Corporation, AP State Agro Industries Development, AP Tribal Mining Co. Ltd and Housing Board- also struck up padmasana postures on the carpet. The meeting meditated upon the losses of public sector undertakings (PSUs) and ways of rejuvenating them.Shankar Rao told the media later he had written to the chief secretary, the secretary to the CM and the General Administration officials on Oct 29 that the furniture in his chambers had become old and he wanted it refurbished. "There was no response to the letter, obviously under instructions from the chief minister," Rao said.
