Assam: Airport official caught taking Rs 50,000 bribe
Advani allegedly asked for money from a private firm employee to clear bills related to airport's extension project

Jorhat: A senior Airports Authority of India (AAI) official was on Wednesday caught by a Central Bureau of Investigation team here while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from an employee of a private firm. Official sources said AAI Jorhat Senior Manager (Engineering) MP Advani allegedly asked for money from a senior official of PNC Infratech, the company which is undertaking extension work of the Jorhat airport's runway.

The bribe was sought to clear some bills related to the project. The person contacted the CBI office in Guwahati and a six-member team of the investigation agency under Additional SP Sudip Roy went to Jorhat to investigate the matter.

Advani was taken into custody in his office Wednesday afternoon while he was accepting the bribe. His office was also searched by the CBI team. Advani was later taken to Guwahati for further interrogation.
