Chennai: The attacks on Indian students in Australia were ''racial outbursts”, said Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi in Chennai on Saturday.
Ravi told journalists the attacks were clearly carried out by anti-social elements, who robbed students not staying in hostels or accommodation provided by educational institutions.
''The students came under attack during late night while returning from work,'' he said.
Ravi was confident that Australia, as a multi-cultural society, would not tolerate attacks on Indian students. He advised Indian students abroad to keep in touch with the country’s embassies or consul generals.
An Australian delegation, comprising academicians and elected representatives, was likely to Delhi, Chennai and other cities to assure that the country was a safe place for education.
