New Delhi: Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh seems to be never far away from a controversy.
After being accused by Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds of racial abuse and then being called an 'obnoxious little weed' by Aussie opener Matthew Hayden, Harbhajan has reportedly made monkey gestures towards a section of the Sydney Cricket Ground crowd during his team's six-wicket win in the first match of the best-of-three finals on Sunday.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Harbhajan made the gesture of scratching his armpits with both hands and repeated the gesture with one hand later.
The newspaper claimed that Harbhajan was also photographed making the gesture.
Sydney Morning Herald quoted a spectator, Craig Woodbury, who was sitting in the Bill O'Reilly stand as saying that Harbhajan also spat towards the crowd after they called him "a wanker".
"He definitely made the monkey gestures and he spat towards us. It was a bit disgraceful really, especially after what happened here in the Test match," ," Woodbury said.
However, the Indian team management denied the incident.
India's team manager Bimal Soni said, "The crowd was harassing him, he has not done anything," he said.
If the accusation is true, Harbhajan could be in trouble with the International Cricket Council and under its Code of Conduct would be charged under section 3.3.
Last year during Australia's tour to India some fans made the same gesture to taunt Symonds during the Mumbai One-Day International. The fans were ejected from the ground and later on questioned by the police.
