New Delhi: The Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) must be banned and declared illegal, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has said.
"Communal organisations namely, VHP, Bajrang Dal and their ancillary outfits, should not only be banned but also declared illegal," said the commission in a report submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Government must ensure that the organisations do not regroup under new names.
The Commission also demanded de-recognition of political parties inciting communal passions. "Once any political party is found to be behind engineering riots and inciting communal passions for electoral gains directly or indirectly, through its agents, stern action should be taken against such politicians including de-recognition of such political parties by the Election Commission."
The Commission alleged that the supporters of the two groups have infiltrated police forces and are seen offering prasada and applying tilak to police personnel deployed to control riots. "In fact, their volunteers have successfully infiltrated in police and paramilitary force."
It blamed the Bajrang Dal and VHP for the communal riots in Indore in July during which eight persons were killed. The commission alleged the bandh called by the VHP in Indore over the Amarnath land grant issue was the "root cause of the violence."
