Apollo Children’s Hospital organised a live workshop for Teachers and Parents on ‘First Aid and Basic Life Support’. Around 50 teachers and parents participated in the workshop and benefitted.
This is a special drive by Apollo Hospitals as a part of their CSR to educate people on the ‘basic life support’ techniques.
In the wake of recent tragic incidents that have taken away precious lives of children, and in connection with the World First Aid Day this workshop was organised to spread the importance of first aid among the public.
Speaking during the session, Dr Indhra Jayakumar, Pediatric Consultant, Intensive care unit said, “The ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR), being familiar with First Aid procedures, knowing how to react when a child is choking , bleeding , having a seizure or an asthma attack are important skills for both teachers and parents to have. Certain self-limiting illnesses or minor injuries may not require further medical care past the first aid intervention.
It generally consists of a series of simple and in some cases, potentially life-saving techniques that an individual can be trained to perform with minimal equipment”.
She added that, ”Whether the children are on a field trip, in the lunchroom, at the playground, in the classroom, or at home, caregivers should have the potential to face such untoward situations.
One need not wait for professionals to arrive, with enough knowledge on First Aid and BLS, timely and appropriate intervention could result in saving lives.”
