Melbourne: Mahesh Bhupathi has his first of two shots at an Australian Open title this year on Saturday.
Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles will take on second seeds Mike and Bob Bryan in the final of the men’s doubles.
Bhupathi and Knowles, seeded third, thrashed Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 6-3, 6-1 to make the finals of a Grand Slam event together for the first time since forging the partnership in 2008.
The Bryans dashed hopes of an India versus India final by beating Leander Paes and Lukas Louhy in the semi-final. Paes-Dlouhy pair lost 3-6, 3-6 to American second seeds.
Bhupathi's best performance in the Australian Open came way back in 1999 when he reached the finals with Paes.
He has not won a men's Grand Slam since 2002 but along with Knowles has formed a formidable pairing.
It will be a tough outing against the Bryan twins as the pair has been dominating mens doubles for some time now.
Later Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza entered the mixed doubles final after beating Czechs Iveta Benesova and Lukas Dlouhy 6-4 6-1 in the Australian Open semi-finals in Melbourne on Friday.
