New Delhi: Having successfully overseen the second edition of the Hockey India League (HIL), Bjorn Isberg was on Thursday retained as the tournament director of the 2015 event to be held Jan 22-Feb 22.
"After a successful stretch of working with HIL in the second edition as the tournament director, Bjorn Isberg continues to be a part of the League in its third season," Hockey India (HI) said in a release.
Isberg headed many International Hockey Federation (FIH) events in recent years including World Cup 2014, Olympic Games 2012 and three Champions Trophy tournaments.
"We are very pleased to appoint Bjorn Isberg as the tournament director in the third season of the League. He has enormously contributed to the League which has received huge support and exposure in the previous editions," HIL CEO Elena Norman said.
"I wish him all the best for his extended service as Tournament Director and look forward to his brilliant efforts which will be highly appreciated. With his vast experience he will be an added advantage to the League."
Speaking on his involvement in the HIL, Isberg said: "I'm very pleased to be able to return and be a part of HIL 2015. The last season saw some fantastic attacking hockey, with a lot of great hockey profiles participating. We will now build on the success from last season, and I expect this season to be even better," he said.
"The panels of umpires and other officials are already appointed, and I´m very pleased with all appointments. One of our targets as officials is to create a good, fair and safe environment for the players, so that they can perform and play their best hockey. I'm very much looking forward to the start of HIL 2015."
Isberg has also worked as an assistant tournament director at the Olympic Games 2008 and two FIH World Cups in 2006 and 2010.
