KOCHI: The BJP, which claims to put forth a strong fight in the coming Piravom by-elections, is still confused over declaring its candidate. BJP state president V Muraleedharan said the process for choosing the right candidate was on and that the name would be declared at the earliest. Stating that the late announcement of the candidate would not spoil the chances of the party, he said the BJP was well-prepared for taking on the two Fronts. “The UDF and LDF are now in a dilemma with the announcement of the candidates well ahead of the declaration of the poll date,” he said. BJP state general secretary A N Radhakrishnan said the BJP had already started campaigning. “Our members are very much in the campaigning. The name of the candidate will be announced at the earliest,” he said. When asked if the late announcement of the candidate would affect the campaigning, with the two Fronts already announcing its candidates, he said: “The UDF and LDF candidates are now finding it hard. The UDF, which announced its candidate, has not even convened the election convention. The LDF, which had already convened the meeting, is now in a position that it needs to hold another one as it was long back that they had conducted the previous meeting. In such a situation, the BJP thinks that the announcement of dates could be delayed,” he said. However, both leaders are confident that the BJP would come up with a strong fight in the constituency. They said this time, the party would make its presence felt in the constituency. M N Madhu had won 4,324 votes in the last elections. In the coming by-poll, the BJP is likely to field an appropriate candidate to ensure that the party does not fall behind the share of votes secured in the last elections.
