A second year B Sc student of DRM Science College committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at Tolhunse village near here around 11.30 pm on Friday.
According to sources, the boy stated in a two-page death note that he was unable to bear torture from the college principal and his chemistry lecturer.
Police sources identified the boy as K P Sachin Kumar, a native of Hirekannavangala village in Tarikere taluk of Chikmagalur district studying in DRM College.
In the note, Sachin alleged that college principal Srinivas and lecturer J B Raj used to unnecessarily harass and threaten him, sources said.
Sachin had also mentioned that they insulted his father in front of other students. Davanagere railway police registered a case and are investigating the matter.
Students Stage Stir
Students of DRM College and neighbouring colleges held a snap stir on the college premises on Saturday morning and boycotted classes to condole Sachin’s demise.
The students also demanded the immediate resignation and arrest of the principal and lecturer. Many complained that the duo had often harassed students and abused their power over them in academic matters.
Additional Deputy Commissioner S H Vijaykumar visited the college and assured them that an inquiry will be initiated immediately and those responsible will be dealt with severely.
However, the students refused to budge until the duo resigned. Bowing to pressure from the students, the principal and lecturer handed over their resignation letters to the college management.
