Nuremberg (Germany): Omar Bravo scored twice and substitute Zinha added the third as Mexico beat Iran 3-1 in their opening Group D clash on Sunday.
Bravo gave Mexico the lead in the 28th minute when he slotted the ball home from close range after Guillermo Franco headed on a free kick by Pavel Pardo.
Iran equalised eight minutes later when Yahya Golmohammadi pounced on a loose ball from a corner by Mehdi Mahdavikia.
With the game appearing to be heading for a draw Bravo capitalised on a series of errors in the Iran defence to make it 2-1 after 76 minutes and Zinha scored with a superbly executed header three minutes later to give Mexico a deserved victory.
