KOLLAM: After lying idle for decades, the building in memory of late freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Travancore-Cochin C Kesavan, near the Mayyanad Railway Station, is expected to get a fresh lease of life. A meeting chaired by District Collector P G Thomas here on Friday has decided to renovate the building.The government has given special sanction for the renovation works and Rs 13 lakh has been allotted from the MLA fund for the purpose.A tender would be floated for the works once the technical sanction is received. PWD officials would prepare the estimate for the remaining works, which would be submitted to the ADC General.The building would be given a fresh look after laying floor tiles and a fresh coat of paint. It was decided to place an attractive board on the memorial, which would be easily noticed by the rail passengers.It was in 1978 that the then Chief Minister C Achutha Menon laid the foundation stone for the memorial in the home village of C Kesavan.The building was constructed on the land owned by Mayyanad Grama Panchayat and was taken over by the Department of Cultural Affairs.The RDO had been appointed as the chairman of the renovation committee.AA Azeez MLA, ADM O Raju, RDO K Salim, Mayyanad Panchayat president K Sheela Kumari, RC Bank president D Balachandran, other local body members and officials attended the meeting.
