New Delhi: Without citing a reason for the decision, the Health Ministry has removed the Chief Vigilance officer of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Sanjeev Chaturvedi from his post.
However, amidst criticism for the decision Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said that Chaturvedi was "not eligible" for the post. "He was not at all eligible for the post that he was holding at AIIMS. We were informed that without the approval of the Central Vigilance Commission, nobody can be assigned the post of CVO anywhere. This was brought to our notice, we took cognizance of the same and removed him from the post," Vardhan said.
The move is being seen as a violation of the CVC Act. According to the law, no CVO can be removed by any ministry without approval from the CVC.
The charge of his office has been assigned to Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance officer of Union Health Ministry for a period of 3 months. Chaturvedi's tenure was to have lasted till June 2016. He was a Haryana cadre forest service officer of 2002 batch.
