Chennai girl on tour dies of electric shock

A 11-year-old girl who had come to Kolli Hills on a family tour died after suffering an electric shock when she tried to retrieve a shuttlecock from the top of a van, on Saturday.

According to police sources, J Arthi, daughter of S Jayaseelan, from Mosque Street in Mylapore, Chennai, was playing badminton along with other girls who were part of the group on tour, on the premises of a lodge in Karayankattupatti, where they were staying.

When the shuttlecock fell on top of a van, Arthi climbed on the vehicle and tried to retrieve it. She hadn’t noticed overhead power cables and was electrocuted when she came in contact with them, sources said.

She was immediately rushed to the Government Hospital in Semmedu where she was declared brought dead. The driver N Muneeswaran (40) from Madurantakam,in Kan chipuram,  who was sitting in the van, also suffered a minor shock and was admitted to a private hospital here. Vazhavanthinadu police registered a case.
