HYDERABAD: Denizens will get a rare opportunity to view artefacts from Chinese civilization. The Archaeological Survey of India in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage of China is going to organise a two-month long exhibition, Treasures of Ancient China at the Salarjung museum from June 23 to August 22.The exhibition will showcase 94 artefacts of ancient Chinese culture ranging from the Neolithic period (10,000 BC) to the Qing dynasty (18th century). They include two statues from the famous Terracotta Warriors collection from the tomb of Zhang Sheng Anyang of Henan province. Curator of the exhibition, Jhumur Singh said, “Some artefacts are very delicate, priceless and rare. One of them, a jar made of Sui porcelain is considered the oldest porcelain in the world.” The artefacts are made of stone, pottery, jade, bronze, gold and porcelain, including China’s Ming dynasty blue and white porcelain, blue and red porcelain, Fencai mixed glaze-soft colour porcelain and tri-colour pottery. She added that exhibits are from various dynasties, with each period having a distinctive style and speciality. For instance, terracota warriors belong to the Qin dynasty, pottery from the Ming dynasty and the like. “A special exhibit which is going to attract visitors is a pottery barn made of seventeen pieces which fit together,” Singh said. The exhibition is being held with a view to enhance cultural ties and bring about awareness of the similarities of both cultures. It follows a similar exhibition held in four major cities of China, showcasing Indian art and culture, said the curator. She added, “China has a very ancient culture more so than India. Their history is basically art and war and the exhibition is a reflection of those aspects.”The exhibition which was held in Delhi and Mumbai before Hyderabad, will move onto Kolkata next.
