CHENNAI: Reiterating that all farmers who attended the Farmers Mega Festival conducted in all revenue villages of the State were offered arusuvai virundhu (delicious feast) irrespective of the number that turned up for the event, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday revealed, “Indeed, the menu for the feast was finalised by me. The items to be served were selected by me and the menu included vada and payasam.”Intervening in the speech of DMDK member Venkatesan in the State Assembly, the CM said the festival was being conducted since the Tamil New Year day (April 13) and all farmers who attended the festival had been offered the feast. On Venkatesan’s contention about the scarcity of workers for agricultural work, the CM said the State government had initiated mechanisation of farm works to sort out this problem. Agricultural equipment is being provided to farmers at a nominal rent and to create awareness about issues like these among farmers the festival was being held.
