KOCHI: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has expressed disappointment over the lackadaisical attitude of bureaucrats in disposing of the petitions received in the mass contact programme conducted in November. Speaking at a review meeting at the civil station, here, on Monday, he asked District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth to prepare a report on the missing list of applications which he himself had forwarded to various departments. Chandy asked for a report when the departments, especially Social Welfare and Local Self Government Department (LSGD), reiterated their stance that they did not get much applications on pensions for the physically and mentally challenged. The Chief Minister refuted the LSGD officials’ stand that they got only five applications seeking pensions. “It is not possible. I personally have forwarded many applications seeking pensions to various departments,” he said. The officials also could not give a reply when he mentioned about the applications pending on Asha Kiran scheme.The Chief Minister also said that the state government will bear all the expenses for cochlear implant of children up to the age of 3 years. In addition to this, if a doctor confirms that a cochlear implant will be successful on a 4 or 5 year old, the government will bear the cost of the operation. Besides, private hospitals registering births above hundred should have all the facilities to conduct the operation,” he said.Excise Minister K Babu, Minister for Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob, Benny Behnan MLA, Hibi Eden MLA, Anwar Sadat MLA, District Collector P I Sehik Pareeth were also present.
