BANGALORE: Its once again "Delhi Calling" for Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who will be in the national capital along with the Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss about the coal linkage issues.
The CM said the discussion is crucial for several ongoing power projects in the state. "Since we are facing severe power shortage, it is necessary that we get coal linkage immediately to start production in our new plants," the CM said.Karnataka that has no coal deposits, depends on imported coals and on the allocation of coal by the Union government. However, the state government has been left in the lurch as many of its on going power projects whose combined capacity is around 5,000 MW have failed to take off due to the absence of coal supply. This has forced state government to point fingers at the

Centre. As for 201112, the state government is planning to add 1,000 MW additional power to the state grid. But, it can be realised only if there is a supply of coal.

If the CMled delegation yields result, projects such as the 2,400 MW supercritical thermal power station project at Yermarus and Yedlapur villages, 700 MW Bellary thermal second stage and the 1,600 MW plant of Karnataka Power Corporation in Chhattisgarh may see the light of the day.
