KOCHI: Thousands will walk down memory lane as they step into the grand old campus of Maharaja’s College, their beloved alma mater, on Friday morning. The Maharaja’s College Alumni Association, one of the biggest of its kind in the world with nearly 1.5 lakh members, is set for their get-together, 'Maharajakeeyam 2012'.With romantic and political memories etched on his mind, Union Minister Vayalar Ravi will inaugurate the event around 11 a.m. Former Minister K R Gowri will be the chief guest. This will be followed by ‘Gurupooja’, where all the retired teachers of the college will be honoured.Coming to relive their memories and youthful days are a large line of people who have carved a niche in different walks of life. They will share precious moments in the college from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each classroom will await the students of each batch from 1932 onwards.Five venues have been arranged to accommodate different batches. The batches from 1932 to 1950 will assemble at the Malayalam Hall, 1951 to 1970 at the History Block, 1971 to 1984 at the Physics Gallery and 1999 to 2010 at the auditorium. It will be a time to exchange pleasantries and entertainment.Following this, all the old students will assemble at the special venue in the courtyard where the inauguration is scheduled. After the delicious feast, the souvenir ‘Maharajakeeyam’ featuring articles related to the history of the college by 87 past students, including Defence Minister A K Antony, will be released by Vayalar Ravi, Mammootty, Salim Kumar and director Siddique.V Vishwanatha Menon, Thomas Isaac, Binoy Viswam, P T Thomas MP, T A Ahmed Kabir MLA, CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan, Vaikkom Vishwan, Salim Kumar, journalists T V R Shenoy, K M Roy, Venu Rajamony, Dr V P Gangadharan, Rev Joseph Mar Gregorios among others are expected to participate.A get-together of the talents in the field of drama, cinema, mimicry and music is being planned. Actors including Dilip, Rajeev Ravi, Amal Neerad, K S Prasad, Adam Ayub, Aneesh Abu, Jyotirmayi, Ramesh Kurumsseri, Sajan Palluruthy, Baburaj, Ansar Kalabhavan, Biju Narayanan, Sathyan Kulangad, Shibu Chakravarthy, Tini Tom, Sarayu Mohan are expected. The stalwarts in literature such as O N V Kurup, Prof M K Sanu, Prof M Leelavathy, Prof K G Sankara Pillai, Prof M Achuthan, Prof M Thomas Mathew, S Ramesan, R K Damodaran, Sunil P Ilayidam and Harikumar Changampuzha are also expected.
