HYDERABAD: The Congress high command has never said that it will accept the demand for a separate Telangana state, party MLA from Bapatla Gade Venkata Reddy has said.Speaking to the media in the Assembly lobbies on Wednesday, the former minister said that the party did not include the Telangana issue in its manifesto. What the party had promised in 2004 and to what TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao agreed was constition of a second states reorganisation commission, the senior leader asserted. He said even leaders who stood for a united state were urging the Centre to take a decision on Telangana as early as possible and, at the same time, said they remained committed to united Andhra Pradesh and made their opinion clear to the central leaders. If the high command failed to find a proper and speedy solution to the issue, the party’s future in the state would be dark, he said and claimed that some allies of the Congress in UPA also did not favour state’s division. On suicides in Telangana, he said committing suicide by sitting on railway tracks could not be called a movement.Venkata Reddy said Andhra people, because of their culture and tolerance, always welcomed Telangana leaders to visit their region but that should not be misconstrued as their willingness for state’s division.
