New Delhi: Four men have been arrested for allegedly drugging and raping two young women from Jharkhand in a flat in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura area, police said on Monday. Those arrested have been identified as Mohd Naushad (34), a resident of Darbhanga district in Bihar, Raj Kumar alias Raju (38), a resident of Mahender Garh, Haryana, Mohd Nazir alias Raju alias Pauva (26), a resident of Bihar, and Dulal Khan (25) a resident of Malda, West Bengal, police said.
The 21- and 24-year-old victims had done their graduation from an institution in Gurgaon and had come to the national capital on June 2 to collect some documents. They were supposed return to Jharkhand on June 5, police said. One of the accused won their confidence by promising to help them get railway tickets and then, along with other accused, gave them sedative-laced drinks, raped them and left them in an unconscious state separately at isolated places.
The accused had taken the mobile phones of the victims, and after a technical surveillance was launched, the culprits were tracked down one by one, police said. Dulal was first to be caught and the mobile phone of one victim was recovered from him. The three others were nabbed after that. On interrogation, all the accused confessed about their involvement in the crime.
According to the police, the incident came to light on the intervening night of 5 and 6 June when about 2.30 am a police constable on patrol, found a girl walking dazed and finally falling on the Gamri Road in the area. He informed SHO Bhajan Pura who reached the spot with woman constable and ERV vehicle. Her clothes were disturbed and blood spots were seen on salwar.
"The girl was immediately shifted to GTB Hospital, Delhi where medical examination confirmed rape. At about 8:36 AM, another girl was found in intoxicated condition in New Usmanpur area, whom a PCR van got admitted in Jagpravesh hospital," Additional Commissioner of Police (northeast) VV Chaudhary said.
Even as the victims were unfit for statement, a case was registered at Bhajanpura Police Station based on MLC report and the investigation started. One of the victim's after gaining consciousness told police that she along with her friend had reached Anand Vihar Railway station June 5 bound for Jharkhand. However, they did not get confirmed tickets.
"Here, they met a man who introduced himself as Raju and told them that he was also going to Jharkhand. He suggested the two girls should accompany him to Old Delhi Railway station where he would get confirmed tickets for Jharkhand.
The women agreed and sat inside an auto-rickshaw hired by Raju in which another man was already seated next to the driver," Chaudhary said. On the way, the women were offered cold drink laced with sedatives. They fell unconscious after drinking it and regained consciousness only at GTB Hospital. They had no idea what had happened to them after they fell unconscious.
