Director, cast hopeful about release of first chick film
The release of Mainak Bhowmik's 'Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends' has been postponed by a month.

Kolkata: With the release of Mainak Bhowmik's 'Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends', stated to be the first girl chick film in Indian cinema, postponed till the middle of next month, 'Maach Misti and More' director says he would not accept any cut by the Censor Board.

"The film has been sent for review to the Censor Board. Everybody knows I don't make films to titilate the audience. If they are not okay we will decide about the next course of action. But I won't allow any cut. That will cripple my film aesthetically and artistically," Mainak told PTI here.

With the film's release not taking place on April 26 as scheduled, popular actor Swastika Mukherjee, one of the three characters of the girl flick in Bengali on the lines of 'Charlie's Angel', told PTI "don't know where the problem lies. If my idea doesnot gel with someone else's, that doesn't mean you will throttle my voice."

"We didnot have any problems with films like 3 Idiots, even recent 'Hawa Bodol' in Bengali which deals with male bonding and the colloquial terms males use in conversation. But if girls want to be girls as they are in their own company on screen, we go for moral policing," the Mishor Rahasya actor said.

"Everyone is entitled to have his personal view. For example if I have qualms about a man not receiving phone calls from a girl after 11 pm, that is my personal view. I may not be okay with that in the case of my family members, my father or anybody else. But should I put my foot down to a film where a male lead is seen talking to a girl after 11 at night! Come on, it is not my personal fiefdom," a livid Swastika said.

Terming it as a happy film centering on three normal girls, Mainak's 'Maach...' actor Parno Mitro said "the film revolves round three girls, who lead normal lives, who want to be just themselves."

Describing the trailer of the film as refreshingly shot, with nothing objectionable in the promos, one of the three female leads Raima Sen said "I do so many films in Mumbai industry. I don't think the film has anything to hurt the sensibility of the audience."

"Let people decide if they will see the movie or not. I won't explore any other media like net for releasing the film," Moinak, who had first directed Amra, said.

Censor board sources said the film's poster mentioned April 26 release date even before it was cleared.

Satrajit Mitra of Tripod Entertainment, one of the producers said, "we went public with the release date only after the trailer was okayed by the Censor."
