Dirt thrown on religious idol in Shahpura; situation tense

A religious idol was found smeared with dirt in Shahpura town of the district this morning, triggering tension in the area. Shops in the market were forced shut by some outfits in protest against the incident, police said.

"The dirt was thrown by someone last night and it came to light in the morning, when people went to the place of worship. Locals gathered and demanded arrest of those involved in the matter," police said.

Police force was deployed in the town and efforts are on to identify the miscreants, they said.
