CHENNAI: Revel in the spirit of Pongal this entire week by watching Discovery Channel Tamil every night from 8 pm till Pongal Day. New episodes showcasing the State in new light will be telecast by the channel to ring in the festive spirit. These include two episodes devoted to the journey of British chef Keith Floyd and Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle exploring Tamil Nadu’s food, culture and cinema. Apart from this, an exclusive show on the centuries-old tradition of Kaavadi and body piercings during the Thaipoosam festival will be showcased. Keith Floyd’s Chennai will take the audience through his food-finding mission, while Harsha Bhogle will take a keen look at Tamil cinema, and the fusion of French infuences in South Indian food and culture in Puducherry. Presenting details of the Thaipoosam festival will be a Kuala Lampur-based Indian Guna and Caucasian Australian Hindu Dr Carl Vadviella Belle through a pilgrimage they undertake. There will also be an episode on hand-painted film posters, an art form said to be on the brink of extinction. Commenting on the special festive line-up, Rahul Johri, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, South Asia said, “Although the harvest festival has relevance across the nation, our large and dedicated viewer base in South India especially Tamil Nadu led to our decision to celebrate Pongal with our Tamil viewers across the state.”
