HYDERABAD: Former APCC president D Srinivas was on Thursday elected unopposed as member of the Legislative Council under Assembly quota. He was the only candidate to file the nomination for the seat that fell vacant following the resignation of former chief minister K Rosaiah on his appointment as Tamil Nadu governor.Legislature secretary S Rajasadaram handed over the ‘Certificate of Election’ to Srinivas in his chambers.Later, the senior Congress leader took oath in the presence of council chairman A Chakrapani at the latter’s chambers near Jubilee Hall.Several ministers and senior Congress leaders were present.Talking to newsmen later, Srinivas asserted that he remained committed to the separate statehood cause.He said he favoured division of the state without any bad blood between the Telugu-speaking people. “I will strive to improve the party’s image.My selection to the MLC seat happened in a normal way,’’ he claimed.
