Duraisamy inspects rain-affected suburbs

CHENNAI: Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy on Wednesday toured the rain-affected areas in Alandur zone and ordered the local officials to speed up the clearing work there. A press release said, the Mayor, along with the Alandur Zone chairman VNP Venkataraman and a group of civic body officials visited Gauri Nagar, Madhavan Nagar, Ramakrishnan Nagar, Tiruvalluvar Nagar, Raje-swari Avenue and BHEL Nagar in Ward 156 from where severe water logging has been reported.Speaking to reporters during the visit, Duraisa-my said, “Due to release of surplus water from Chembarambakkam Lake, most of these parts were inundated and civic body officials have been instructed to drain out the stagnant water.”He also announced th-at the tank of Mariyamman Temple in the locality would be desilted to store rainwater.The civic body had organised hea-lth camps for the rain-affected people in 39 locations on Tuesday and about 5,600 persons were treated for rain-related diseases.
