HYDERABAD: The power utilities in the state have been instructed to make all-out efforts to provide seven hours of power supply everyday to the agriculture sector during this Kharif season. The government on Tuesday directed power utilities to compensate the supply shortfall within 24 hours to protect all standing crops. The power distribution companies (Discoms) are currently supplying seven hours of power to over 29 lakh agricultural pumpsets in the state depending on power and system availability.During a teleconference with top officials of the APTransco and Discoms held on Tuesday, principal secretary (energy) Dinesh Kumar instructed officials to discuss daily power supply and demand position at the forthcoming substation level meetings with farmers and explain the constraints in supply. The officials were asked to invite feedback from farmers on the present system of power supply to agricultural sector. The government provided a total support and subsidy of around Rs 34,330 crore in the last seven years on an average of Rs 5,000 crore per annum.
