Everything that is white is caustic soda in milk

BANGALORE: A popular proverb says, “All that glitters is not gold.” Going by the same lines, police arrested seven persons who allegedly supplied adulterated milk to hotels in City Market, Kalasipalyam, Majestic and other areas. Test reports suggested that this milk could have a major impact on blood pressure and sugar levels.Kalasipalyam police said, “Based on a tip-off, police caught drivers and cleaners who were unloading milk cans near hotels on Siddaiah Road, City Market and other areas. When asked to produce licence, they did not have one nor did they have invoice bills.”“Investigations revealed that the accused were supplying milk from many years. They used to bring milk from AMD Dairy and UMS Dairy at Erode, Bhavani and Karur of Tamil Nadu. They supplied it to hoteliers and tea and coffee shop vendors. Reportedly hoteliers bought milk from them as they charged Rs 5 less than other milk in the market. We are also contemplating to book the hoteliers for buying adulterated milk,” police explained.“KMF officials said that caustic soda, sugar and other items were used in this milk. Also, the milk lacked fat content and SNF level. They have negative impact on consumers’ blood pressure and sugar levels. Milk samples have been sent to KMF for tests,” police said.Accused have been identified as T Venkatachalapathi, 41, Mutthuswami, 69, S Shekharan, 49, Shekharan, 53, Shankar, 29, Vedivelu, 47, and Palanivelu, 47, all natives of Tamil Nadu.Four lorries, 266 milk cans, Rs 20- 25 lakh worth 10,460 litres of adulterated milk have been seized.
