Chandigarh: Nestled in a 14 acre plot in Sector 90 of Mohali, in the periphery of Chandigarh, is a park that could hold the key to the future of fashion design in India.
Called the Fashion Technology Park, it claims to be a response to the opening up of the global fashion industry.
The park will generate integrated facilities for research and design, development of materials, product innovation and prototype development.
It aims at helping young Indian designers focus on a core competence rather than fritter away time on peripheral activities.
Says Jasbir Singh Kochhar, CEO, FTP:
"Many in the industry are excited about the possibilities that the Park will provide young designers."
Adds Rinku Kaicker, Head Design , Wills Lifestyle Brand: "The Park is thinking big and is bent upon being the first of its kind in the world."
The fashion technology park is one of many specialised parks coming up in Mohali, Punjab. The Chandigarh Technology Park is up and about.
A biotech park is waiting to be inaugurated and a science park is also planned.
