New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday took over from the Uttar Pradesh Police the probe of serial murders in Noida’s Nithari village.
"We have received a notification from the Union government asking us to begin a probe into the Nithari killings," said CBI Director Vijay Shanker.
UP Chief Minister had announced a CBI on Friday, but his government published a notification making a request to the Centre on Tuesday.
The CBI is taking over the probe after severe criticism of the UP Police’s investigation. The CBI will give priority to the Nithari murders, said Shanker but refused to comment on how the agency will deal with the case.
Quoting unnamed sources, PTI said UP Police officials visited the CBI's headquarters in Delhi on Wednesday evening and gave details of their probe.
Businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his domestic help Surendra Koli are the main accused in the case and allegedly raped and murdered children in their D-5 bungalow.
