BANGALORE: These days, masses flock to the most eccentric stores to deck their cribs with unique, out of the world objects. The rarer, the more souped up it is. One of the most important home decors are lamps which make your house as snug as ever. There are legions of lamps with different hues of lighting to choose from. Splash your home with the most extrinsic lamps, be it a vintage rustic with wickers protruding or a modern  torchiere with electric fire blazing. Today, it's all about making your hearth as homely as possible. What better way to get the job done, than choosing low and dim illuminated sepia lighting. In vogue are tropical lamps, in different themes like parrots, bright coloured macaws, seashells and tall pineapple lamps. But what people pine for the most, are antique lamps."The same modern gadgets are seen around everywhere, so why not go for a change and opt for the vintage. I love the feel of a rustic home, with a closed dungeon aura. I draw up my thick brown curtains, light up a dozen candlesticks and settle on the couch for a nice cup of tea. There's nothing like a home with cosy lighting," says Nishitha a home maker. As we delve further into a modern era, people want to retain the beauty of the exquisite objects used by ancestors. Many choose to hold on to lanterns, candlesticks and chandeliers. To make this more ravishing, lamps are studded with priceless stones like rubies, diamonds and emerald, sparkling in the light. Lamps can add a style statement to your crib and make you feel welcomed as you enter. An essential part of your life, they add up to the moods you feel. A low, flickering  lighting can induce irritation and sadness, or a bright fluorescent light can make you happy and content. The best part is, it doesn't take long making one. Grab a household item like a basket, wine or beer bottles, cut out bits of newspapers and pop a light bulb over them. You can put in all your creativity and gorge the bottles with plants, seashells and even paint them with exotic designs. Choosing the fabric for the lampshade is the exciting part, as you can play with colours."All the lamps at my home are custom designed. My kid's room has colourful mushrooms as lamps with different hues of lighting. Practically any object can be hallowed and turned into a lamp. The most favourite lamp I've made till now is a huge glass bottle, filled with water. Bright green creepers and a few colourful tiny flowers have been put inside the bottle so that the stark green blends with the yellow fabric of the lampshade," says Sindhu Muralidhar, an interior designer.Today, lamps can be turned on and off with a snap of your fingers as they have installed motion and sound detectors. But there's nothing like a simple lantern lit by a flickering flame.
