Five child labourers rescued

BHUBANESWAR: Five child labourers were rescued by a social service organisation in the City on Sunday which was observed as World Day Against Child Labour. The five have been identified as Sanjay Bisoi, Pratap Kanhar, Binod Bhoi, Budhia Mallik and Sunil Kanhar.  Four of them were wandering near Acharya Vihar area when a member of Ruchika Social Service Organisation spotted them and drew attention of the local police.  All the children were in the age group of eight to 14 years.After they were questioned, police found out that the children worked for Raghunath Hotel in IRC Village under Nayapalli Police limits.  Police raided the hotel and found another child labourer.Investigation revealed that all the five children belonged to Kandhamal’s Chakapada.  A middleman had brought them here to provide them work. Family members of the five were assured that their wards would receive Rs 2,000 a month as remuneration. However, they were hardly paid salary on time.The five have been lodged at Childline, a short-stay home, till their parents reach here to take them home.
