CHENNAI: The strategic transportation network to be developed as part of implementation of the Second Master Plan for Chennai Metropolitan Area has four major missing road links and works on these missing links will be prioritised under the 12th Five Year Plan, sources said. The missing links include Link Road, connecting MMRD Scheme road at Old Mahabalipuram Road to East Coast Road, Outer Ring Road southern segment, Link Road connecting National Highway Byepass and Inner Ring Road northern segement and Link Road connecting outer ring road at Vandalur and Marmalong Bridge-Irumbuliyur Road (MBI Road) at Rajakilpakkam (Tambaram Byepass Road). Sources said that it is proposed to develop the four-lane Link Road connecting MMRD Scheme Road at OMR to ECR for a length of 1.5 kms and a width of 30.5 metres with the aim of improving the road connectivity between Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR) and the East Coast Road. Similarly, it is proposed to develop the six-lane road of Outer ring Road southern segment for a length of 4kms and to a width of 61 metres to improve the connectivity between Marmalong Bridge-Irumbuliyur Road (MBI Road) and the Old Mahabalipuram Road. The Link Road connecting the National Highway byepass and Inner Ring Road northern segment will have a six-lane road for a length of 4kms and to a width of 61 metres to improve the connectivity between national highway bypass-GNT Road and Inner Ring Road – Northern Segment. Meanwhile, there is also a proposal to develop Link Road connecting the Outer Ring Road at Vandalur and the MBI Road at Rajakilpakkam (Tambaram Bypass Road) into a six lane road for a length of 10 kms and a width of 45 metres to improve the connectivity between GST road and MBI Road, sources added.
