Members of Poikal Kudhirai, Karagattam, Pambai, Silambattam Folk Artists Welfare Association demonstrated here on Monday, demanding various benefits. They demanded that the age limit for women artistes should be fixed over 40 years and they should be given pension and welfare assistance.
They demanded their musical instruments should not be charged in buses. They wanted a music and dance school in Vellore.
The members of the association should be considered while choosing beneficiaries for Green House Project, they said. The artists should be allowed to perform in temples and government functions. The protest was led by district president Palvel. A petition was given to District Revenue Officer Sundaravalli. Earlier, they held a folk performance in front of the Collectorate.
