Paris: France fans paid tribute to the 1998 world champions and Euro 2000 winners before Les Bleus's friendly against Greece at the Stade de France on Wednesday.
Past and present players took the plaudits of the 68,000 crowd who waved white and blue flags on which was written "Merci Les Bleus".
Zinedine Zidane, who scored twice in the 1998 final and retired after this year's World Cup final, receiving a standing ovation.
David Trezeguet, who scored the golden goal in the 2-1 defeat of Italy in the Euro 2000 final, was also there along with Patrick Vieira, Nicolas Anelka, Christophe Dugarry, Laurent Blanc, Lilian Thuram and the just-retired Youri Djorkaeff.
Goals from the 1998 and 2000 triumphs were shown on a giant screen as the loudspeakers played the French soccer anthem, a remix of Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive.
"It was a human adventure. This generation conveyed important values. We shared our feelings with a lot of people," former France captain Didier Deschamps said at the Stade de France, where Les Bleus beat Brazil 3-0 in the 1998 World Cup final.
"Years go by but we have the feeling it happened yesterday. The Stade de France has a history and we are among those who wrote it," the Juventus coach added.
