New Delhi: The economic slowdown has hit the French economy significantly.

A week ago, millions took to the streets protesting against the government.

On Tuesday, workers at a pharmaceutical factory took their manager hostage to protest against layoffs.

The employees are demand favourable conditions attached to a plan to axe 110 of the 235 staff in a company near Paris.

The company had said that it wanted to reduce staff after market demand dwindled.

This is not the first time France has seen workers trying to secure better layoff terms.

Earlier this month, angry employees at a Sony factory in southwest France detained the CEO and HR-Director of the company's French arm to secure improved layoff terms.
